WE WILL NOT HAND OVER POWER TO FAILURES – NALUMANGO
Mrs Mutale Nalumango, Vice President, stated that her government will not hand over power to failures because it has achieved massive economic development.
Nalumango’s statement, “we will not hand over power to failures,” while perhaps an expression of confidence, it misconstrues the nature of democratic power.
In a democratic system like ours, the electorate, through the ballot box, is the ultimate arbiter of a government’s success or failure.
People are the ones with the right to hire and fire.
If the people of Zambia vote for change on August 13, her government, irrespective of its self-perceived achievements or its perception of its opponents, has a constitutional and moral obligation to hand over power peacefully.
The orderly transfer of power is not a concession to failure but a fundamental affirmation of democratic principles and the sovereignty of the people.
The strength and legitimacy of a democratic system are ultimately measured by its ability to uphold this principle, ensuring that power resides with the electorate and is transferred according to their collective will.
