FINDLAY’S WIFE RAISES CONCERN OVER HARRY’S HEALTH IN DETENTION
WIFE of treason charged Lusaka businessman Harry Findlay has raised concern over his deteriorating health, saying the family has now spent 34 days seeking humane treatment and access to proper medical care for him.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Findlay family, she said Harry had been moved between detention facilities and that the family went 12 days without knowing his whereabouts.
She further alleged that Harry was denied access to his prescribed medication and has since fallen ill. According to the family, he has been on a drip since Wednesday, September 2, but has not been taken to hospital for specialised medical treatment despite authorities being aware of his medical condition.
“Regardless of the charges, every human being has constitutional rights,” the family said, adding that detention should not become punishment.
The family also said it had filed a habeas corpus application seeking to have Harry brought before the court, but alleged that several adjournments occurred because the State did not produce him. The court subsequently proceeded to hear the application in his absence.
The Findlay family has appealed to authorities to ensure that Harry’s constitutional rights are respected and that he receives the medical attention he requires.
“Whatever the allegations against Harry, his life cannot be restored if it is lost,” the family said.
