IRH WAS NOT A CABINET BUT AN INDIVIDUAL DECISION – MUNDUBILE

Leader of the opposition Brian Mundubile alleges that the decision to give equity in Mopani Copper Mine to International Resource Holding (IRH) was an individual decision.

Mundubile who is also PF member of Parliament says the decision was not made by cabinet. He explains that if the matter was tabled by Cabinet it would have been sent to Parliament.

Speaking when he featured on Let the People Talk program Friday morning, Mundubile wondered why the matter was not taken to Parliament.

Mundubile a lawyer explained that initially there were 10 listed companies which had bidded in Mopani Copper Mine and IRH was not one of them. He said the list was then reduced to four and IRH was not there.

He wondered how IRH was sneaked into the bidding list to emerge the favorite equity and majority shareholder with 51% shares.

Mundubile said these issues would have been raised on the floor of the house.

The picking of IRH as an equity partner in Mopani Copper Mine has raised a number of issues with the opposition questioning the decision.

Opposition Leader Edith Nawakwi of United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) alleged that government has not received any penny in the treasury by selling the asset.

Nawakwi has challenged government to explain how IRH has gotten the majority of the stake in Mopani Copper Mine without paying any money to the treasury.

She has since vowed to take legal action to have the matter resolved transparently.
