PONDAMALI ARRESTED

In a significant incident, police in Kabwe have arrested NRPUP mayoral candidate Wilson Pondamali, who initially reported a UPND member for damage at Chowa Police Station.

Pondamali faces charges of inciting violence after allegedly urging a group of NRPUP cadres to confront someone he described as an “idiot” during the report, with his comments recorded on video.

Central Province Police Commanding Officer Lemekani Chirwa provided details that the event unfolded on a Sunday afternoon when NRPUP was conducting a rally disrupted by suspected UPND members, allegedly instigated by James Thole, resulting in property damage at the rally site and subsequent retaliatory actions against Thole’s residence.

Following these incidents, Pondamali, accompanied by NRPUP cadres, went to report the incidents but instead were arrested.

Chirwa urged all political parties to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and warned that law enforcement would act impartially against any form of electoral misconduct.
