North Korea reportedly halts unauthorized World Cup broadcasts after international scrutiny

North Korea has reportedly suspended its unauthorized broadcasts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following growing international scrutiny over alleged copyright violations.

The controversy erupted after reports claimed that North Korea’s state broadcaster KCTV had been airing World Cup matches without officially obtaining broadcasting rights, allegedly using satellite feeds originating from outside the country.

The broadcasts also reportedly included commercial advertisements from South Korean companies, including Hyundai, drawing further attention to the issue.

According to international media reports, Pyongyang has now halted the unofficial broadcasts as FIFA and legitimate rights holders in Asia continue to investigate the matter.

Analysts believe the move may have been intended to avoid potential disciplinary measures or additional sanctions related to unauthorized use of FIFA broadcast content.
