KULIMA TOWER DRIVERS DISMISS UPND SPONSORSHIP CLAIMS

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Kulima Tower Bus drivers have distanced themselves from claims that they are being sponsored by the United Party for National Development (UPND) for initiatives aimed at celebrating the performance of the ruling party, including President Hakainde Hichilema’s birthday.

Addressing journalists, Bus Station Chairperson Nicholas Banda stated that the station uses its own initiatives to raise funds.

He revealed that celebrations such as President Hichilema’s birthday actually generate more income for the station and drivers than a typical working day.

Mr. Banda has called for the depoliticization of the drivers initiative of giving free rides to the general public, stressing that the events benefit the wider public and not any political party.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda commended President Hichilema for restoring law and order in bus stations.

He has disclosed that drivers are now making more money than they did during the Patriotic Front (PF) government era, as they are no longer required to pay party fees or contribute to village banking for party officials.
