Is RUSSIA really a superpower or Just a country with lots of Nukes?
Meet THE World’s most Embarrassing AIRCRAFT CARRIER.
Russia’s “Supercarrier” Became a Floating Disaster
Russia’s only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, was once promoted as a symbol of Soviet naval power and even compared by some analysts to America’s supercarriers. Built during the Cold War, it was designed to project Russian air power across the world with fighter jets, anti-ship missiles, and long-range operations. On paper, it looked like a serious challenge to NATO fleets.
In reality, it became one of the biggest military embarrassments in modern naval history.
The carrier gained global attention during its 2016 deployment to Syria, where it sailed through Europe trailing massive black smoke so thick that many compared it to a burning oil tanker. NATO navies monitored it closely, but not because they feared it — because they expected mechanical failure at any moment.
During the Syria mission, the Kuznetsov lost multiple aircraft due to arresting cable failures, forcing Russia to move most of its jets back to land bases. Tugboats reportedly accompanied the carrier on deployments because officials feared its engines could break down at sea.
Since then, disaster after disaster followed. A massive floating dry dock sank onto the ship in 2018, damaging its flight deck. In 2019, a huge fire killed workers during repairs. Years of corruption, poor maintenance, outdated technology, and endless delays turned the carrier into a floating symbol of Russia’s declining naval power.
While the U.S. operates multiple nuclear-powered supercarriers capable of global dominance, Russia’s only carrier has spent more time under repair than at sea.
