COURTS CLOSED AS MUNDUBILE SET TO CHALLENGE PRESIDENTIAL RESULTS

The High Court and Constitutional Court across the country have been closed over security concerns, with armed police officers deployed at the premises.

A spot check by Phoenix News in Lusaka, Chipata, Kitwe and Solwezi found the courts sealed off to the public, while the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security headquarters was also closed.

The closure comes as Tonse Alliance Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile is expected to challenge the August 13 presidential election results over alleged irregularities in the vote-counting process.

Meanwhile, Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa says the alliance is consulting legal experts regarding this development and is expected to issue an update later today.

Dr. Mwelwa says the courts should remain autonomous and provide a platform for resolving electoral disputes.
