British Columbia Premier David Eby declared that Omar Artan would be welcomed and celebrated in his province, calling for him to referee World Cup matches in Vancouver.
The 34-year-old arrived at Aden Adde International Airport to cheering crowds, government officials and a stadium full of supporters after being denied entry to Miami despite holding a valid visa and diplomatic passport.
“I will attend the next World Cup,” he told his people. “I want the Somali public to take comfort in this and remain confident.”
One country slammed the door. Another country said come in.
