Is Jacob Zuma using xenophobic attacks to destabilise the government ?

Is Zuma weaponising xenophobia again ?

OPINION

A lot of South Africans are asking a serious question right now: Is Jacob Zuma using xenophobic attacks to destabilise the government ?

Let’s look at the facts – and his real goals.

What does Zuma actually want ?
He’s 84 years old. He’s not building a future. His only goals are:

· Avoid arrest – He faces an arms deal case that could send him back to prison
· Threaten the state – He’s shown he’ll trigger violence to pressure the government
· Stay influential – He wants to remain a kingmaker, not a retiree

He doesn’t care about South Africans. He cares about staying free and relevant.

History repeats – When Zuma was imprisoned in 2021, his supporters unleashed riots that killed over 350 people and caused billions in damage. His message then: “Arrest me and the country burns.”

MK Party rhetoric – His MK Party has been ramping up anti-foreigner language, blaming immigrants for crime and joblessness. That’s not leadership…that’s a smokescreen while he fights his own legal battles.

Convenient timing…Every time the state moves closer to prosecuting him, the threats of unrest get louder. He’s literally warned of “another July 2021” if he’s rearrested.

The real target – Xenophobic violence doesn’t hurt the government. It hurts vulnerable people. Spaza shop owners. Refugees. Workers. Families.

Zuma is old. His game is simple: threaten chaos, avoid accountability, stay untouchable.

South Africans aren’t fools. Don’t let him burn the country down to save himself.
