IT’S GARY NKOMBO WHO ASSAULTED ME AND I LOST K20, 000 IN THE PROCESS, NKOMBO’S ALLEGED ATTACKER TELLS POLICE
The Zambia Police Service in Mazabuka District registered two cases of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH) at the Mazabuka Police Station on May 20, 2026, at 11:25 hours. The incidents reportedly occurred earlier the same day, around 09:25 hours, at the Mazabuka Civic Centre in Mazabuka Town.
In the first case, Mr. Bilden Shaloba, aged 50, a resident of the Waterfalls area in Lusaka, reported being assaulted by Mr. Garry Nkombo and his supporters. He claimed to have suffered a swollen left hand, back pain, and general body pain as a result of the attack. Additionally, he alleged the loss of K20,000 during the altercation.
The second case involved Mr. Emmanuel Mweemba, aged 36, from Nkabika Compound in Mazabuka. He reported that he was also assaulted by Mr. Garry Nkombo and his supporters. Mr. Mweemba sustained a swollen right little finger and a swollen right arm, injuries he attributed to being struck with unidentified objects.
Preliminary details indicate that both complainants were at the Mazabuka Civic Centre on May 20 to support Mr. Vincent Lilanda, who was filing his nomination papers as a United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate for Member of Parliament for Mazabuka Central Constituency. During their time at the Civic Centre, it is alleged that Mr. Garry Nkombo and his supporters confronted them about their presence before attacking them.
The police launched an investigation into the matter following these reports. As part of the inquiry, Mr. Garry Nkombo was summoned on May 29, 2026. He appeared at the Mazabuka Police Station on June 1, 2026, at 14:10 hours and provided a warn-and-caution statement.
He has since been charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia. Following this process, Mr. Nkombo was released on police bond.
Further updates regarding this case will be shared in due course, says Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo.
