Yo Maps Released from Namibian Police Detention on Court Bail
Celebrated Zambian artist Elton “Yo Maps” Mulenga has been released from police detention in Namibia on court bail. The news was confirmed by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Hon. Steven Katuka.
Yo Maps, who was arrested on Sunday for performing in Namibia without a work permit, is now back at his hotel and is set to return to court on Tuesday morning. Charges against his manager, DJ Kandeke, have also been completely dropped.
The incident occurred when Yo Maps, a renowned 32-year-old singer and songwriter, was arrested during his performance at the Loft Night Club in Windhoek. According to a police officer involved in the operation, Yo Maps had entered the country on a visitor’s visa but went on to perform, leading to his arrest around 1 am.
However, the situation has now been resolved, with the Zambian artist being granted court bail. In a photograph released, Yo Maps is seen alongside DJ Kandeke and Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Namibia, Mr. Lloyd Himaambo, after their release this afternoon.
