TONSE ALLIANCE DISPELS CLAIMS ABOUT EDGAR LUNGU’S HEALTH

The Tonse Alliance has refuted the government’s assertion that former Republican President Edgar Lungu has prolonged his stay in South Africa due to undergoing cancer treatment.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana stated that Lungu was receiving chemotherapy.

However, Tonse Alliance Spokesperson Sean Tembo countered the claim, stating that Lungu, who serves as their chairperson, has never been diagnosed with cancer.

In a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Tembo explained that Lungu’s extended stay in South Africa is due to awaiting results from various health tests.

He noted that, having been blocked by the government from attending routine annual health checkups over the past three years, Lungu is using this opportunity to undergo a comprehensive medical examination.

Tembo dismissed suggestions that Lungu is in regular communication with President Hakainde Hichilema or individuals associated with him, clarifying that there has been no contact between the two leaders since Lungu left for South Africa.

Tembo emphasised that Lungu’s return to Zambia will depend on the receipt of his medical test results and will not be influenced by those wishing to see him unwell.
