The Head of LIBYA’s Presidential Council, MOHAMMED MENFI, on Wednesday called on political, media, and social actors to exercise restraint in public discourse and reject incitement, in order to thwart the objective behind the ässass!nation of SAIF AL-ISLAM GADDAFI, saying: “undermining efforts toward national reconciliation and the holding of free and fair elections through which the people choose their leadership.”
MENFI urged waiting for developments in the official investigation results into the “ässass!nation of the presidential candidate,” reaffirming that he is following what was stated by the Attorney General’s Office regarding the incident and the comprehensive preliminary investigative measures undertaken to uncover the circumstances and causes.
He stressed his close monitoring of the investigation outcomes to ensure there is no impunity, expressing understanding of public concerns and welcoming the use of technical support and necessary expertise within legal frameworks to enhance the transparency of the investigations and expedite their results, thereby strengthening public trust.
Meanwhile, Presidential Council member MOUSSA AL-KONI called for rejecting violence, saying: “No to political assassinations or taking demands by force.”
He emphasized LIBYA’s need to move forward through dialogue as the only path to constructive communication among all parties, which would lead to a possible and long-awaited solution to the country’s crisis, according to a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday.
SAIF GADDAFI’s political team said he was ässass!nated by four armed men who stormed his home yesterday afternoon, stressing that “this crime will not pass without the pursuit and punishment of all those involved in planning and carrying it out.
