Sunday Chanda, Sylvia Masebo join other UPND losing MPs in petitioning of seats
Former Chililabombwe MP Paul Kabuswe has petitioned the Lusaka High Court to nullify the Chililabombwe parliamentary election, alleging electoral irregularities, vote buying, violence, intimidation, undue influence and character assassination.
Mr Kabuswe, who contested on the UPND ticket, lost to Nsofwa Lupele, who secured 10,920 votes against his 8,986. He is asking the court to declare the election invalid and order the Electoral Commission of Zambia to conduct a fresh poll, citing alleged voter inducements and disruptions that he claims affected the outcome.
Meanwhile, former Lands Minister Sylvia Masebo has also challenged the Chongwe East parliamentary election, alleging false and defamatory statements and attempts to improperly influence voters.
She lost to Anita Kamanga, who polled 16,058 votes against her 6,798. In Kanchibiya, losing MP Sunday Chanda has similarly petitioned the election, citing alleged widespread illegal practices and violence.
According to court records, more than 20 election petitions** are expected to be filed across the country.
