SOME KITWE RESIDENTS CONDEMN THE ALLEGED THREAT ON DRIVERS BY UPND DURING NRPUP RALLY IN KITWE.
By Mercy Mulenga.
Some Residents in Kitwe District have expressed disappointment with the UPND in the district for the alleged move to Barr bus drivers from being booked by The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) during the political rally in Kitwe.
Some Residents who called on Social Chatter Radio Program on Yar FM, alleged that some local bus drivers refused to offer transportation for people who came for the political rally on claims that they’ve been told not to, or risk being blacklisted from operating from the stations.
The residents further condemned the alleged political intimidation on drivers while calling for a fair playing ground during campaigns.
Speaking during the same program, NRPUP information and publicity secretary Munalula Moola, also confirmed having experienced such a challenge, noting that some drivers they had engaged were roughed up while some were threated not to offer transportation services to NRPUP or risk being barred from operation from bus stations again.
Mr. Moola, said some drivers who went against the directive by some alleged UPND cadres operating in Bus stations, have not been able to operate from their designated stations due to fear.
In response, UPND Copperbelt Deputy Youth Chairperson Kangwa Kamando, said the reason why NRPUP had transport challenges is because they ferried people from other districts for numbers.
He described the claims as small issues that the party cannot fail to resolve, further calling on drivers who were intimidated to come on board and have their issues resolved.
