POLICE SEAL OFF EMBASSY PARK WHERE EDGAR LUNGU WAS EXPECTED TO LAY WREATHS

Armed police officers this morning sealed off Embassy Park where former President Edgar Lungu was expected to lay wreaths in memory of late Zambia’s fifth Republican President Michael Sata.

Police officers also sealed off PF secretariat where Mr. Lungu was expected to address party supporters before leading Members of the Central Committee and Members of Parliament to lay wreaths at the embassy park.

And PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity Emmanuel Mwamba has described the action by the police utter lawlessness and a suppression of citizens’ freedoms and rights.

Mr. Mwamba says the party has since been forced to reschedule both the press briefing and the wreath-laying ceremony by Mr. Lungu.

Meanwhile, Citizens First Party Spokesperson Frank Sichone has described the attempt by the police to stop PF members from hosting a memorial service for Mr. Sata yesterday as shameful.

Mr. Sichone says his party is cognizant of the fact that the PF members had their own reasons to have this memorial hosted at the Cathedral of Child Jesus with understanding that their leader was a catholic and his party he founded should have been at the core of organizing the event.
