OPEN SPACES ZAMBIA URGES MEDIA HOUSES TO ENGAGE IN REPLACEMENT PROCESS FOR IBA AND ZNBC ACTS

Telda Mawarire, Chief of Party for the Open Spaces Zambia project under Internews Network Zambia, has emphasized the importance of media houses’ involvement in the repeal and replacement process of the Independent Broadcast Authority (IBA) and Zambia Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) acts.

Mawarire stressed that media houses should actively participate in coverage and stakeholder engagements related to the replacement of these acts, as they will directly impact the media industry once they are enacted into law.

Addressing participants at a sustainability management training for the media in Kabwe,

Mawarire highlighted the significance of having a media sector that can contribute to the formulation of laws and policies.

She warned that failing to engage in the formulation process of the IBA and ZNBC acts could result in difficulties in amending them in the future if they become law.

The call for media involvement comes on the heels of the announcement by Thabo Kawana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Media, regarding the government’s initiation of the repeal and replacement process for the ZNBC and IBA acts.
