MAN JAILED 80 DAYS FOR STEALING TWO (2) BAGS OF EAGLES MEALIE MEAL
A 35-year-old man of Lusaka’s Makeni Bonaventure, Best Miyoba, has been sentenced to 80 days simple imprisonment for stealing two bags of Eagles Mealie Meal valued at K 378. 00.
The said Mealie Meal was stolen at one of the Shoprite stores in Lusaka.
In passing judgement, Magistrate Allan Kangwa says failure to punish the accused might erode the chain store investor confidence to open more stores in Zambia and have people employed.
He says If the convict is not punished, the court will be failing in its duties to warn would be offenders.
In this matter, the convict was charged with an offense of theft which carries a maximum jail term of five years.
