KALOMO TOWN COUNCIL DROPS LOAN AND GRANT COMPONENT UNDER 2024 CDF

KALOMO TOWN COUNCIL DROPS LOAN AND GRANT COMPONENT UNDER 2024 CDF

Kalomo Town Council has proposed to drop the Loan and Grants component under its 2024 Constituency Development Fund-CDF Budget.

Kalomo Town Council Chairperson Coy Makaya says the proposal was made during a meeting with various stakeholders who included both Kalomo Central and Dundumwenzi Members of Parliament.

Mr. Makaya explains that the funds from the two components will be channelled towards addressing among others, water challenges that have come as a result of the drought experienced in the 2023/2024 farming season.

He adds that the local authority will therefore drill commercial boreholes in both rural and urban areas as a way of addressing the scarcity of water that has come as a result of the drought.

Mr. Makaya further noted that the local authority will also construct Weir Dams in some parts of the district in order to harvest water for both people and Livestock in the coming rain season.

He was however quick to mention that the local authority is waiting for guidance and approval from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development before it implements the realigned budget.

Mr. Makaya states that if approved, all the aforementioned projects will be done.

On 11th March 2024, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa urged Kalomo Town Council to realign its budget in order to respond to the drought situation following President Hakainde Hichilema call for the National Budget to be realigned after he declared the drought a national disaster.
