KALABA’S CITIZENS FIRST MUCHINGA PROV SECRETARY LEAVES PARTY OVER DECISION TO JOIN UKA
Muchinga provincial secretary of the Harry Kalaba-led Citizens First Party (CFP), has resigned from his position and the party with immediate effect.
Clinton Simbeye cites his disagreement with the party’s decision to join the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), a coalition of opposition parties that aims to challenge the ruling government in the upcoming elections.
In his resignation letter addressed to the CFP national Secretary General, Mr. Simbeye thanked the party leadership for the confidence and privilege they gave him, but said he could not be part of an alliance that did not represent the interests of Zambians, but rather those of individuals and a political party.
The CFP Secretary General, Vincent Chintu, has confirmed receiving the letter, but said the resignation has not been accepted by the party.
He has told Chete FM News that the party has other issues that might have led Simbeye to resign, and that they would be discussed soon.
UKA is a newly formed alliance of several opposition parties, including the CFP, that claims to offer a better alternative to the current government.
The alliance has been criticized by both the ruling party and other opposition parties as a desperate attempt to gain political relevance and power.
