GOVT MAKES SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN UPGRADING UNSTRUCTURED BORDERS ACROSS ZAMBIA
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga says his ministry has made significant progress in upgrading unstructured borders across the country to ensure more efficient cross border trade.
Mr. Mulenga has told Phoenix News that in the past, borders have been centers of criminal activity because business is run in an unstructured manner.
He says the government has since created a framework of trading zones in which business would be conducted in a safe and controlled manner.
Mr. Mulenga adds that once completely implemented, this structure will allow the country to generate cash from cross-border trade, as it is currently unclear whether or not the government is collecting taxes.
