Government evacuates Justice Malila to South Africa 4 days after road accident
GOVERNMENT has evacuated chief justice Mumba Malila to South Africa for medical treatment, four days after being involved in a road traffic accident.
Dr. Mumba Malila, SC, is said to have sustained minor injuries after a road traffic accident on the evening of last Friday on Lusaka’s Independence Avenue.
The Judiciary Boss was heading home from work when the accident happend in the vicinity of the Civic Centre around 19:00 hours.
Justice Malila sustained a cut on the forehead, left eye, and left leg and was immediately evacuated to Maina Soko Military Hospital.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga had disclosed that, a speeding BMW, Registration Number BAP 3706 which was heading towards the Lusaka High Court lost control due to excessive speed, detoured and ploughed into Justice Malila’s official car GRZ1 Mercedes Benz.
Hamoonga said the BMW also smashed two other vehicles that were parked at the Civic Centre Bus Stop, a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Hiace.
However, ministry of information and media permanent secretary Thabo Kawana says, the chief justice has been evacuated to South Africa for further treatment of his fractured leg.
“He (justice Malila) remains in very high spirits and he is thankful for all prayers and well wishes,” Kawana said.
He clarified that the chief justice’s driver Newton Njovu, did not suffer any injuries from the road traffic accident and is in good health.
“Government will continue to provide updates on His Lordship’s condition when necessary,”said Kawana
