CHIEFS REJECT ‘THIEVING’ PF COUNCILLOR

Traditional leaders in Chipangali have rejected the election of Patriotic Front (PF) Sisinje Ward councillor Bobat Phiri as deputy council chairperson for allegedly being involved in the theft of relief maize.

The civic leader was elected Chipangali deputy council chairperson last month despite being arrested and charged for allegedly stealing 450 bags of relief maize meant for the community in his ward.

Chief Chanje said traditional leaders in Chipangali and their subjects are not happy with the election of Mr Phiri.

“We are not going to allow this and a lot of people are not happy with this,” he said. “Don’t forget that it’s us chiefs who are in forefront of begging for relief food for our people from the President through the office of our DC [district commissioner].

“The President is trying by all means to help our people in different ways while one person wants to benefit alone by killing thousands of voters
