CCMG PRVT Discovers More Votes Than Those Counted In 30 Constituencies
The Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG), through its Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT), has identified discrepancies between its independently verified figures and the official presidential results in 30 constituencies.
The PRVT is designed to compare results collected by CCMG monitors at polling stations with the figures later reported through the official tally. CCMG says its verification found more votes reflected in the official figures than could be accounted for by the results observed by its monitors.
Reports on the findings indicate that a significant portion of the difference appeared to benefit President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND. However, the finding itself does not establish that the votes were deliberately added or identify who may have caused the discrepancies.
Importantly, CCMG’s assessment still indicates that Hichilema crossed the 50% threshold required to win the presidency without a runoff. CCMG’s PVT methodology is intended to independently assess the accuracy of official election results.
The findings therefore raise questions about discrepancies in the official tally, while not changing CCMG’s assessment of who won the presidential election.
