Ailing Nawakwi detained incommunicado, applies for constitutional bail

THE State has continued to keep ailing Edith Nawakwi in detention and all efforts to have her granted bail have been frustrated and has now applied for Constitutional bail at the High Court.

Yesterday, Brebner Changala was granted constitutional bail by the Lusaka High Court after languishingly spending more than 168 hours at Kabwata Police Station cell.

Last week, the State swooped and rounded up leaders of opposition political parties, including Ms Nawakwi, the president of the forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and Dr Dan Pule, the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDP), two parliamentarians, Munir Zulu, the Lumezi law maker and Maureen Mabonga, the Mfuwe Patriotic Front (PF) Legislator.

“It is unconstitutional, inhuman and cruel for the State to continue keeping Ms Nawakwi in detention or any other citizen for more than 48 hours without taking them to court https://epaper.dailynationzambia.com/public/
