PIETER KRIEL BLASTS THE DA AS SOUTH AFRICA’S ‘MOST RACIST POLITICAL PARTY’, QUESTIONS WHY SO MANY PROMINENT BLACK AND COLOURED LEADERS HAVE LEFT THE PARTY OVER THE YEARS
Political activist and social commentator Pieter Kriel has reignited debate around race and representation in South African politics after launching a sharp attack on the Democratic Alliance (DA), accusing the party of repeatedly losing influential Black and Coloured leaders while continuing to present itself as a non-racial alternative.
Kriel questioned why several high-profile figures who once occupied senior positions within the DA eventually left the party, arguing that these departures should not simply be dismissed as personal disagreements or isolated political disputes. According to Kriel, the pattern raises deeper questions about the party’s internal culture, leadership structure and commitment to transformation.
The young activist, who has built a significant following through his outspoken views on race, inequality, Pan-Africanism and South African politics, said political parties should be judged not only by their public statements but also by how they treat leaders from different backgrounds within their ranks.
His remarks have sparked intense discussion online, with critics of the DA pointing to past resignations and internal disputes involving prominent Black leaders, while supporters argue that the party remains committed to non-racialism and equal opportunity for all South Africans.
The DA has consistently rejected accusations of racism and maintains that it is a party for all South Africans regardless of race, ethnicity or background.
