ACCOUNT FOR BROKEN PROMISES BEFORE CRITICISING PRINCIPLED LEADERS, KALABO SENIOR CITIZEN BLASTS MILUPI OVER ATTACK ON SINYINDA
By Zambia Barotseland Border post
Reporter,
A senior citizen from Kalabo, Mr. Akalingana Walubita, has strongly condemned former Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi for criticising former Ngambela Clement Wainyae Sinyinda following his endorsement of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) and the Tonse Alliance.
Mr. Walubita’s remarks come after Mr. Milupi, while addressing a campaign rally in Kalabo yesterday, described Hon. Sinyinda’s decision to abandon the UPND as disappointing. Mr. Milupi defended the UPND government’s record, claiming funding had been secured for major road projects, including the Tapo–Kalabo–Sikongo Road, and urged residents to re-elect President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND.
However, in a strongly worded statement sent to Zambia Barotseland Border Post News this morning, Mr. Walubita accused Mr. Milupi of hypocrisy and attempting to shift attention away from what he described as the UPND government’s unfulfilled promises to the people of Barotseland.
He said Hon. Sinyinda’s endorsement was a principled decision driven by disappointment over promises made in 2021 that, according to him, remain largely undelivered.
Mr. Walubita argued that instead of attacking Hon. Sinyinda, Mr. Milupi should explain why major commitments—including the rehabilitation of key roads, the construction of an international airport, and the establishment of a university in Barotseland—have not materialised despite years of assurances.
He further questioned Mr. Milupi’s own performance as the minister responsible for infrastructure, saying critical roads such as the Livingstone–Sesheke Road remain in poor condition while many roads in Mongu continue to deteriorate.
According to Mr. Walubita, asking voters to trust another round of campaign promises without accounting for previous commitments undermines public confidence. He stressed that leadership should be judged by delivery rather than political rhetoric.
The senior citizen also praised Hon. Sinyinda for standing by what he believes are the interests of the people of Barotseland, saying his decision reflects courage and political integrity rather than personal convenience.
Mr. Walubita further argued that Mr. Milupi should have resigned in 2024, as Hon. Sinyinda did, following President Hichilema’s controversial remarks regarding Barotseland, stating that leadership demands consistency and integrity.
He concluded by reaffirming his support for Hon. Sinyinda, insisting that democracy guarantees every citizen the right to support the political movement of their choice. He added that on August 13, the people of Barotseland would judge political parties based on their record, credibility, and ability to deliver meaningful development—not recycled campaign promises.
