FRA Will Only Buy Maize Once Moisture Content Reaches 12.5% – Kawana
By Staff Reporter
The government has dismissed claims from sections of society that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has delayed purchasing maize.
Speaking to the media in Ndola during the Trade Fair, where he visited the FRA stand, Ministry of Information Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said the moisture content of maize, particularly in Northern part of Zambia, is still around 18%. He explained that FRA will only begin buying maize once the moisture content drops to the required 12.5%.
Mr. Kawana also assured farmers that FRA will soon implement the President’s directive to announce this year’s maize purchase price. He said the agency will communicate the official buying price to the public in due course.
