UPP JOINS UPND ALLIANCE AHEAD OF AUGUST ELECTIONS
The opposition United Progressive People’s Party (UPP) has joined the UPND Alliance ahead of the August General Election, in a move its leader says is aimed at promoting peace, unity, and national development.
Announcing the decision in Lusaka, UPP President Dr Savior Chishimba said joining the Alliance does not mean surrendering the party’s identity or its support base, but reflects a shared commitment to good governance and national progress.
Dr Chishimba was firm in his rejection of divisive politics, warning that tribalism and division only serve to undermine national unity. He urged Zambians to turn away from such tendencies and instead embrace a spirit of working together. No region, he said, should claim ownership of the country, because Zambia belongs to all its citizens under the enduring principle of One Zambia, One Nation.
True leadership, he added, is measured not only by the ability to identify challenges, but by the willingness to find practical solutions that improve people’s lives.
Dr Chishimba also commended President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration for its progress on economic recovery, singling out the successful restructuring of Zambia’s debt as a significant achievement that is helping to stabilise the country and lay firmer foundations for growth.
He closed with a vision for the nation’s future: a Zambia where no child is ever judged by their tribe, and where politics serves to unite rather than divide. It was, he said, a future worth building together.
