MATERO MP MILES SAMPA BIDS FAREWELL AFTER TWO TERMS, CITING INFRASTRUCTURE GAINS
Outgoing Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa has announced he will not seek re-election in the constituency, highlighting significant infrastructure and social development achieved since 2011.
In a farewell message to residents issued on May 12, Mr Sampa reflected on what he described as a transformation of Matero from a largely underdeveloped constituency into a more modern urban area with improved public services and economic activity.
He recalled that when he first assumed office in 2011, most roads were dusty and heavily potholed, healthcare services were limited to small clinics, and the area had only one police station. Markets were largely informal, with traders operating on the ground, while places of worship were predominantly makeshift structures.
Over the years, he said, key roads such as Lumumba, Mungwi and Commonwealth had been upgraded into tarred dual carriageways, improving mobility within the constituency.
He also pointed to the construction of the Matero Level One Hospital, which has reduced the need for residents to travel to the University Teaching Hospital for many medical services.
