35 YEAR OLD MAN DIES IN A ROAD ACCIDENT IN KALUMBILA

A 35 year old man of Manyama area in Kalumbila District has died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle.

Northwestern Province Police Commanding Officer, Dennis Moola said the incident happened on 1st February, 2024 aroun 22:45 hours and identified the deceased as Raphael Kumwenda.

Mr Moola disclosed this in a statement made available to ZANIS in Solwezi today.

‘’Occurred on 1st February, 2024 at about 22:45 hours at Manyama area along Lumwana Kalumbila road. Involved was male Shield Chobe, aged 42 of Ndola who whilst driving a motor vehicle namely Toyota Fortuner registration number ALM 3085 along the same said road from the direction of East to West at a high speed hit a male adult pedestrian namely Kumwenda Raphael aged between 25 and 35 of Manyama area who was in front walking along the above said road coming from the opposite direction ,”the statement reads.

Mr Moola said due to the impact the victim sustained fatal injuries which included a deep cut on the stomach, on the right knee, fractured left leg and a deep cut on the back of the head.

“Damages to the motor vehicle are as follows; Damaged radiator, front bumper, deformed bonnet, shattered front windscreen, damaged grill, broken left rear lamp, broken side view mirror, exploded air bags,” Mr Moola said.

Mr Moola said the body of the deceased is currently lying in Lumwana District Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

“Scene visited and docket of case opened and the driver has been charged for causing death by ddangerous driving,” he said.

Mr Moola said the driver is in Police custody and the motor vehicle has been impounded.
