11-YEAR-OLD LOOKING AFTER SICK DAD IN UTH RECEIVE HELP

NJANJI Seventh Day Adventist Men Organisation (AMO) has donated an assortment of items to the 49 years old man of Mbala, Reuben Musukuma who is currently hospitalised at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Njanji SDA Church Pastor George Mwansa said the church was compelled to make the donation after learning through the media that an 11-year-old boy was taking care of his sick father.

Pastor Mwansa said the donation is part of the church’s mission and responsibility to render a helping hand to the needy in society.

Pastor Mwansa disclosed that the AMO men in the interim managed to mobilise K14,000 which was used to buy the donated items which include a blanket, pair of bed sheets, a cell phone, pillows and toiletries.

He stated that the donated items are meant to address the immediate needs facing the family.

The Clergy explained that part of the money will be used to pay for the meals at the cafeteria so as to enable the boy and the father to feed on a daily basis.

Pastor Mwansa reiterated that religion is about helping the underprivileged and not just going to church and further pledged continued support to the boy till the father is discharged.

“For the immediate situation we decided to donate a blanket, pillows and a few other things which are necessary to address the situation as it is right now,” he explained.

And Constance Phiri, a Nurse attending to the patient at the UTH, thanked the church for coming to the aid of the family.

Ms Phiri said the donation will greatly assist the family as the patient continues to receive treatment.

Meanwhile, Njanji AMO Leader Albert Chisembe pledged on behalf of the organization to care for the school needs of the boy who is taking care of the father.

Mr. Chisembe said the organization is currently facilitating the transportation of an elderly person to come and be on the bed side of Mr. Musukuma.
