60-YEAR-OLD CHAMA MAN TAKES OWN LIFE BY DRINKING MAIZE PRESERVATIVES.

A 60-year-old man in Chama district in Eastern Province, has committed suicide by taking poisonous tablets used for preserving maize grain, after a misunderstanding with his wife.

Flackson Goma of Makeni A compound in Chief Kambombo’s Chiefdom died yesterday 5th January, 2024.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Paul Achiume has confirmed the incident to Kwenje Radio today.

Mr. Achiume said police received a report from 53 year old Susan Kaluba, of the same compound, wife to the deceased that her husband Flackson Goma had taken some poisonous tablets used for preserving maize grain.

Brief facts are that on January 5, 2024, the two had a misunderstanding after the wife asked for some money to buy fertilizer, as the husband was alleged to have gotten a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loan but this did not go well with him hence he decided to end his own life.

Mr. Achiume says Mr. Goma now the deceased who was still battling for his life after taking maize preservative tablets, was issued with a medical report and rushed to Chama district hospital, where he was later pronounced died.

He further said the body of the deceased has been deposited in Chama District Hospital mortuary.
