TWENTY-SEVEN DIE OF CHOLERA IN 24HRS WITH 567 NEW CASES RECORDED

PEOPLE should stop travelling from one town to another to help combat the spread of cholera around the country, MINISTER of Health Silvia Masebo says

Speaking to a patients at Heros Stadium treatment Centre Sunday evening, the Minister said people should avoid travelling, especially to and from Lusaka because the capital city is contaminated.

The patient who explained that he came from Chikumbi area of Chisamba, to Chawama compound to visit, where he contracted Cholera.

And in charge at the Heroes Cholera treatment Centre has requested for increased manpower for both nursing care and cleaning stuff for the patients.

Ms Masebo has since directed for 30 support stuff and additional 20 nursing stuff to report to the epicenter Monday morning.

The Minister was at Heroes Stadium to assess the situation of the facility following Governments decision to turn the multipurpose sports structure into a Cholera Epicentre as an emergency move to decongest health facilities following the surge in cholera cases in Lusaka.

Over 567 new cases have been recorded in the last 24hrs with 27 dead, putting the total figure of in-patients to 1059.
