ZAMBIAN INTERNATIONAL MWEPU BENCH WARMER AT ATLÉTICO SANLUQUEÑO AFTER AFCON SNUB

Zambian international Francisco Mwepu has found himself relegated to the substitute bench at Spanish Primera Federación side Atlético Sanluqueño since his return from national team duty at the beginning of the month.

Mwepu, who featured in the Chipolopolo camp held in Lusaka but was ultimately overlooked for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast, has failed to regain his starting place despite returning to Spain with seven goals to his name for the season.

Since his return, the young forward has been named among the substitutes for the last three matches, making brief appearances off the bench. He entered the fray with eight minutes remaining in Sunday’s goalless draw against CD Atlético Baleares, following similar late cameos in the 2-1 win over Real Madrid Castilla and the 1-0 defeat to San Fernando CD.

The Zambian has lost his starting spot to Spanish international Nacho Ramón, who has capitalized on Mwepu’s absence to take his seasonal tally to 5 goals . Despite their contrasting fortunes, Mwepu remains Atlético Sanluqueño’s top scorer in the league with seven goals to his name.
