A multidisciplinary law enforcement team, including SAPS Crime Intelligence, Interpol, Border Police and private security partners, seized stolen Zambian copper worth more than K13.6 million during an intelligence-driven operation at City Deep, Johannesburg in south Africa.

On 18 June 2026, police seized 26 bundles of copper in City Deep. Investigations revealed that the copper’s original serial numbers had been deliberately removed to conceal its origin.

No arrests have been made yet, but investigations are continuing as authorities pursue those linked to the suspected transnational copper-smuggling syndicate.
