ZAMBIA BIDS FAREWELL TO FORMER VICE-PRESIDENT GUY SCOTT
President Hakainde Hichilema has paid tribute to former Vice-President and Acting President Dr Guy Lindsey Scott, describing him as one of Zambia’s noblest sons whose legacy of humility, patriotism and national unity will endure for generations.
In a farewell message issued as the nation laid Dr Scott to rest, President Hichilema said the late statesman chose to dedicate his life to Zambia despite having opportunities to pursue a comfortable life abroad after studying at some of the world’s leading universities.
The President said Dr Scott served the country with distinction in various capacities, including as a farmer, economist, Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, Vice-President and Acting President.
He noted that during one of Zambia’s most challenging periods, Dr Scott demonstrated calm leadership, protected the Constitution and helped preserve peace and stability.
President Hichilema further said the late leader remained committed to the national motto of One Zambia, One Nation, adding that he judged people by their character rather than their race, ethnicity or colour while working to unite the country.
“As we approach the General Election, let us honour his memory by rejecting division, embracing peace and placing Zambia above ourselves, just as he did,” President Hichilema said.
The Head of State urged citizens to emulate Dr Scott’s values of selfless service and national unity, saying his life should inspire Zambians to put the country’s interests above personal considerations.
“Today, Zambia bids farewell to one of her noblest sons, Dr Guy Lindsey Scott,” he said.
