CHUNGU GRANTED BAIL BUT FORCED TO STAY IN

Liberal Democrats President Xavier Franklin Chungu has been granted bail only to be subsequently refused by the Zambia Police due to fresh instructions from State House.

This case, presided over by Justice Mwila Chibwe Kombe shows how the current regime has no regard for the separation of powers.

When a judicial bail order is defied by law enforcement due to State House directives presents a serious challenge to Zambia’s democratic institutions.

It highlights the critical need to safeguard judicial independence and ensure that all state institutions, including the police, operate strictly within the bounds of the law and without political interference.

Any action that undermines the judiciary’s authority or suggests that political power can supersede legal processes is detrimental to the principles of good governance and democratic accountability.
