UPND RETAINS LUSAKA DEPUTY MAYORAL SEAT WITH RESOUNDING VICTORY

The United Party for National Development has retained the Deputy Mayoral seat for the Greater City of Lusaka.

UPND ‘s Ketty Nanyangwe, who was the incumbent emerged victorious with an overwhelming 24 votes while her closest rival, PF’s Shadreck Banda trailed with a paltry 14 votes.

Lusaka City Council premises erupted in jubilation as, hundreds of jubilant UPND supporters sang songs of solidarity and the unity for the Party.

Secretary General of the Party Batuke Imenda said that the victory was a clear indication of the Party’s growing support and strength base within Lusaka.

Mr Imenda said that as a sole female representative from the ruling UPND, Ms Nanyangwe’s victory symbolizes the Party’s dedication to inclusivity and diversity.

Ms Nanyangwe speaking in a post – election interview thanked the Party for the support and love rendered to her during the run up to the election.

She pledged to continue serving the people with diligence and dedication as guided by President Hakainde Hichilema.

“I promise the people of Lusaka and my fellow councillors that, we shall work as a team to deliver to the expectations of the people of Lusaka District,” said Ms Nanyangwe.

The UPND New Dawn government increased the Community Development Fund from a meagre K1.5m to K30.6m to enhance community participation and development for all Constituencies across the country.
