Undeniably, Ivory Coast’s defeat to Norway is Africa’s BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT so far. Forget about Tunisia.
With the artillery Ivory Coast has, especially upfront, this defeat will live to haunt them. It can be acceptable against the Spains and Brazils of this world but not against a Norway, with all due respect to the Vikings.
Ivory Coast took more shots than Norway (14-9), and had more touches in the opposition box (48-27), but were very blunt. There’s an unsuppressable feeling that they could have given more – that they could have been more daring.
Diomande, Pepe and Amad have far too much quality to have stayed cagy the way they did. They should have driven into the box a lot more , they should have attempted even more shots. Amad’s beauty of a goal was proof enough that Norway may not have stood a daring Ivorian attack.
This is beyond disappointment and that’s the end of the opportunity. It’s never coming back.
