U.S. Vice President JD Vance: Ukraine War Must End Through Negotiations, Not Total Military Victory

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reiterated the Trump administration’s position on the war in Ukraine, arguing that the idea of achieving a complete military victory through additional weapons deliveries and tougher sanctions is unrealistic.

Vance acknowledged that Ukraine has achieved significant battlefield successes and inflicted substantial losses on Russian forces. However, he said the conflict has reached a stalemate, with neither side able to secure a decisive breakthrough.

Addressing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Vance emphasized that Washington’s objective is not to pursue an outright military victory but to create conditions for a negotiated settlement that can bring the war to an end.

He also delivered a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, warning that if Moscow refuses to engage in serious peace efforts, the United States is prepared to increase sanctions and apply additional military pressure.

According to Vance, the current U.S. strategy is focused on pushing both sides toward the negotiating table rather than seeking Russia’s military defeat, reflecting Washington’s view that diplomacy offers the most realistic path to ending the conflict.
