This will be a very tough State funeral for President Hakainde Hichilema to preside over!
The treatment President Hakainde Hichilema gave former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu should never ever happen to any other former President again not even on President Hichilema himself when he leaves office.
I mean, your predecessor can not be admitted to hospital for 7 months in a foreign land just an 1hr 45mins flight from Lusaka and you as Republican Head of State could not spare time to go and visit him in hospital and task government to takeover his medical bills regardless of the politics back home. Not even checking on your elder brother in hospital via a phone call, Zero!
This sad development is so embarrassing for us Zambians today, very embarrassing. Ba Lungu passed on yesterday at 07am Zambian time and the Zambian government was in the dark! What does that tell of the UPND government and the relationship that existed between President Hichilema and former President Lungu?
I feel for our Zambian Embassy in Pretoria being a former diplomat myself and what they had to go through yesterday. By 10am yesterday the Zambian government was still in the dark as they had hearsay information on the passing on of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
It had to take the South African government to assist our Embassy in Pretoria with information of the exact whereabout of the medical facility where our former President had died from and at what time he passed on. All this gap in information could have been avoided had President Hichilema extended a helping hand from the word go to ba Lungu and his dear family the minute the former President left the country to seek specialist medical treatment abroad.
As if this was not enough, despite the government now having the full information at 12pm yesterday of the demise of the former President, Office of Secretary to Cabinet (State Functions) and the President’s desk at State House or is it community house sat on the information with no official information from the government or Republican President to the nation till very late afternoon yesterday when State House press office released a press release (nayo press release in CAPITAL LETTER) informing the nation of the passing on to glory of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in South Africa. How embarrassing can this be to us all Zambians.
