South Africa says undocumented migrants won’t be compensated for abandoned property

South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says undocumented foreign nationals who leave or are deported from the country will not be compensated by the government for any property they leave behind.

However, Ntshavheni stressed that any property legally owned by undocumented migrants remains protected under South African law and may be sold or otherwise disposed of through legal channels.

The remarks come as South Africa intensifies its crackdown on undocumented immigration, with the government insisting that while immigration laws will be enforced, legally acquired property rights will continue to be upheld.
