SIMAATA CLAIMS UPND OFFERED BRIBE AND THREATS TO WITHDRAW FROM ELECTIONS

By NewsDiggers

KABWATA aspiring parliamentary candidate Mainda Simaata has alleged that individuals linked to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) attempted to bribe and intimidate him into withdrawing from the forthcoming August elections.

Simaata, who recently resigned from the UPND after serving as Kamwala Ward 5 Councillor, said he has no intention of stepping aside despite the alleged pressure.

In a Facebook post, Simaata claimed that emissaries had been sent to persuade him to abandon his parliamentary ambitions, offering inducements and issuing threats in the process. However, he maintained that he remains committed to contesting the Kabwata Constituency seat.

The aspiring candidate stated that his decision to run was driven by a desire to serve the people of Kabwata and insisted that no amount of pressure would force him to withdraw from the race.

His allegations come as political activity intensifies ahead of the August polls, with parties and candidates stepping up campaigns across the country.

The UPND had not publicly responded to Simaata’s claims at the time of publication.
