POLICE ADDS ESPIONAGE, PROPOSING TRIBAL WAR CHARGES TO DETAINED POLITICIANS

Espionage is a serious offence that carries not less than 25 years if convicted.

Police confirmed on Thursday, 30th May 2024 that more offences have been added to the earlier charge of hate speech.

Below is the statement by Police Deputy Spokesperson Dan Mwale confirming the development:

Police have today, May 30, 2024, given the suspects additional offences of Espionage and Proposing tribal war.

Munir Zulu, Maureen Mubonga, Edith Nawakwi and Brebner Changala have all been charged and arrested for Espionage contrary to section 3 (c) of the State Security Act chapter 111.

Police have also charged and arrested the two Members of Parliament including Dr. Dan Pule with the offence of proposing tribal war contrary to section 46 chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The suspects remain in Police custody waiting for court appearance.
