PARTISAN POLITICS IS NOT FOR PASTORS

PARTISAN POLITICS IS NOT FOR PASTORS.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am a Pastor.

By Bilon Kalumbinga | Lusaka, Zambia

I have been serving God since 1991. During this period, I have put 2 children through law school and today they live comfortable lives. I have put 1 child through public administration studies.

In all this, I want to say, when God calls you He provides.

As pastors, we should put our trust in the God of our calling and not join partisan politics for survival.

If you get into partisan politics as a pastor your Integrity will get very challenged – no doubt about it. You have to behave like a typical politician.

One day you say this, tomorrow you say the very opposite! One day you condemn something, tomorrow you support it just because it’s your party doing it! You have no choice but to behave in this manner!

Sometimes you may find yourself even supporting wrong things for survival. If the party you belong to is wrong, you have to support or stay mute because you have to survive.

Partisan politics is not for a pastor. It is very challenging in terms of keeping your integrity.

With each passing day, I am getting more and more convinced that partisan politics is not good for a pastor.

Our calling is for a lifetime. Our calling is from God. And God knows how to take care of his servants.

For those of you who have not yet joined but are considering joining partisan politics – don’t do it. It’s not for you. Remain non-partisan. Remain a servant of God. Remain neutral, providing guidance and fatherly counsel to political leaders on both sides of the political divide. That is more honourable.

My heart bleeds when I see a pastor compromise themselves in partisan politics – for survival.

BLESSINGS
Bilon Kalumbinga, Cand Th.D.
