NAQEZ WELCOMES DECISION TO TERMINATE CONTRACTS FOR TEACHERS WHO REFUSE DEPLOYMENT IN RURAL AREAS
The National Action For Quality Education –NAQEZ- says the decision by the government to terminate the contracts of newly recruited teachers who refuse deployment in rural areas will help to address the shortage of teachers in rural areas.
During his state of the nation address on the progress made in the application of national values and principles, President Hakainde Hichilema said teachers who reject placements in rural areas will have their contracts terminated to give chance to others who are ready to work anywhere.
Commenting on this development, NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa says this move will ensure equitable access to education and enhance learning outcomes in underserved communities.
Dr Chansa says most rural communities have for a long time experienced chronic shortage of teachers due to reluctance among teachers to accept assignments outside urban centers.
Dr Chansa is therefore urging the government to expedite the formulation of a comprehensive policy document to solidify this pronouncement as it is anticipated to transform educational provision, particularly in rural communities.
