NALUMANGO CALLS FOR UNITY AS ZAMBIA BIDS FAREWELL TO GUY SCOTT
Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has called on Zambians to honour the legacy of former vice-president Guy Lindsay Scott by upholding unity, peace and selfless service to the nation.
Speaking at Leopards Hill Memorial Park during Dr Scott’s burial earlier today, Nalumango said Zambia had lost a distinguished statesman whose contribution to the country’s democratic development would remain part of its history.
She said Dr Scott had dedicated his life to public service and served the country with humility, commitment and distinction in various leadership positions.
Nalumango, who attended the burial alongside members of the Scott family, government officials and mourners, conveyed government’s condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of the nation’s support during their time of grief.
“Dr Scott served Zambia with commitment, humility and distinction, and his contribution to our country’s democratic journey will remain part of our shared history,” Nalumango said.
She urged citizens to use Dr Scott’s passing as an opportunity to reflect on the values of national unity and collective responsibility, saying the best tribute to the late former vice-president would be to continue building a peaceful and united Zambia.
“The passing of Dr Scott is a reminder of the importance of unity, service and our collective responsibility to build on the foundation laid by those who came before us,” she said.
Nalumango further encouraged Zambians to remain united in honouring the late statesman’s memory.
“May we honour his memory by continuing to work together in peace, mutual respect and love for our country,” said Nalumango.
