HH COMMISSIONS US$70 MILLION CHISAMBA SOLAR POWER PLANT

President Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow expected in Chisamba District to officially commission the second phase of the Chisamba Solar Power Plant, a US$70 million project aimed at boosting Zambia’s electricity generation capacity.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe said the President is scheduled to arrive in Chisamba at around 09:30 hours to preside over the commissioning ceremony.

Dr. Mwanakampwe said the completion of the second phase will increase Chisamba District’s solar power contribution to 200 megawatts, bringing the country closer to its target of generating 1,000 megawatts of solar energy.

He said this in Kabwe when Zesco Managing Director Justin Loongo paid a courtesy call on him ahead of President Hichilema’s visit.
